THE DRAMA RECIPE STORY
Inspired by the Latinoamerican ways of living, loving and their cooking cultures, Lalo Gomes has been producing the part-research project, part-curatorial network, part-group meal show and part-healing cook-fire forum LaLoVe’s Kitchen since 2019.
It is the continuation of his experiments on crossing expanded drama practices with cultural agency, scenic philosophy and social performativity - as in Love Kollaps [Berlin, 2014], La (A)Nueva (A)Sociedad (A)Dramática [Madrid, 2012], La Casa Teatro [Maracaibo, 2008].
For Gomes, cooking represents a time- and site-specific dramaturgical action; a staging of transformations; a crosswalk between improvisation and composition with variable endings.
In "LaLoVe's Kitchen" the artist operates with cooking recipes as dramaturgical means and brings together an everyday kitchen with an open stage, co-hosted by Latinoamerican artist-guests. On this stage, the artists are simultaneously cooks and express artistic intensity in the form of excess, rage, affective-physical outbursts and love with live storytelling and musical performances. Performers and audience venture together into the unknown.
Fusing performance, theatricality, popular and novel culinary specialties with spontaneous and emotionally-affective audience participation, Gomes stages the Cooking of a Drama. This drama allows for the deconstruction of "exotic-foreign" stereotypes and dominant power structures, and provokes collective as well as personal transformations.
